“Im frozen”.. Tips for helping with Raynauds Syndrome.


“My hands are frozen!” “I just cant warm up today” “Is it just me or is it really cold in here?” “What’s wrong with the colour of your hands?”

Does any of the above sound familiar to anyone else???

If so then you might be one of the many people (research says it’s mainly women) who suffer from Raynaud’s Syndrome. This is where your extremities (fingers, toes and sometimes nose ) is extremely cold and sometimes even turns white in colour.

You are also in good company as I have had this for as long as I can remember but more memorably the last 4 years.

Some days its so bad that I immediately notice the drop in temperature when I go in to Tesco’s and from October onward I am rarely seen without my gloves when I’m outside.

Below are some of the things that I’ve found useful in overcoming the (painful) issues that come with Raynaud’s Syndrome.

Invest in warm gloves, socks, fluffy ear muffs, hand warmers and loads of them.

Thankfully we live in a country which has a long rainy and cold season so gloves and socks are not hard to come by and they don’t have to be expensive ones. Some days you might even need to double up on the socks especially if you are going to be walking outside for long periods.

*Penney’s have an amazing section of socks and gloves for as little as €1.50 a pair and you can get them in most colours and styles so you can always be fashionable too.

Make a shopping list when going into the supermarkets.

Especially in the cold and frozen sections as this will help you be more efficient in the shop and you can be in and out before the drop in temperature affects you.

Stay hydrated with warm drinks.

This will not only help keep your fingers and hands warm. It’ll give you a nice and warm feeling inside too if its full or one of your favourite drinks.

*If you feel an attack coming on, try warming your hands by rubbing them fast together, move into a warmer room if you can or put them under warm water to help reheat them slowly. Don’t use hot water or be in direct contact with a heater or radiator as this will result in more pain as the blood flow returns to the affected digits.

Book a Reflexology session.

Reflexology can be of benefit to anyone who suffers from Raynaud’s Syndrome. As a Reflexologist I would work on the circulatory system to help boost blood flow to the areas affected.
